Great space and food. Definitely worth a visit when in Chicago
Cocktails were good, and the service was top notch, but the menu items were overly ambitious and perhaps not well enough thought through. I'd recommend visiting for cocktails/wine and perhaps a small plate, but would go elsewhere for dinner.
The saffron spaghetti with mussels started out really well, but I couldn't tell if the grit in each bite was the crunchy topping or sand from the mussels (or both). The skate wing seemed like an adventurous dish to try, and as a big fan of scallops, I expected to be in love with this one. The texture was a little strange, but I see why it's compared to that of a scallop. The sauce and leeks on top were tasty, but combined with the fishiness of the meat, the dish was a bit watery and bland. I was looking forward to those crispy, buttery edges on nicely cooked scallops, but this dish seemed like it was steamed, not grilled. We also ordered the squash. It was probably the best thing we ordered, but certainly not a showstopper. We'll definitely be back for drinks, but would skip the food menu next time.
Fantastic service and food. Produce is of high quality. Will be back in the future.
The wine list was huge for such a small, intimate restaurant. I'm not a wine drinker, so I had one of their seasonal cocktails, which was pretty yummy. Everything we tried from the menu was delicious and very flavorful. Plates are small, and at least the first two courses are meant to be shared, so don't order just one thing. This is a great place for date nights or intimate parties. Leave the kids at home.
