If I could give them more stars, I would! The vibe is casual but adorable (even fresh flowers on the table)! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. But the food!!!!!!! There were 5 of us in our group. We all got something different, and every plate was absolutely delicious! I mean it! DELICIOUS! BEST pancakes in town!!! (I only got pics of 3 of the plates, sorry!) This was, by FAR, the best brunch food we had on our trip to Chicago! (And we did brunch every day someplace new.) Check it out! But check their days/hours before heading out! Wish I had one at home!!
We've tried a few breakfast sandwiches and they are amazing! The portions are generous, without being pricey. The ricotta french toast is a must! I'll be back soon.
We were beyond sad when our beloved Over Easy closed but Eighty Eight Eggs is a worthy replacement with much of the same friendly neighborhood vibe and great service. Our food was good - eggs over medium for my wife and a breakfast BLT for me - but we need to explore the menu a bit more to see if their unique, specialty omelets and pancakes/waffles are a match with their predecessors. It's a good start!
Recently moved a few doors down from this place we're delighted to have a great breakfast place a few steps away. The service was prompt and friendly. We had a couple seasonal specials on our first visit, a pumpkin spiced ricotta french toast, and a corned beef Benedict. The eggs were poached perfectly on the Benedict, with perfect portions. French toast had great flavor that wasn't overpowering like a lot of pumpkin spiced items. We'll be back regularly.
It was just okay. I was expecting a cheap neighborhood breakfast place; it seems they are aiming for "upscale" but not quite reaching it. A step up from Golden Nugget but not nearly a replacement for Marmalade which used to be a few blocks down.
No cheap options (2 eggs is $10, while a full omelet + potatoes + toast is $13) make it hard to justify going back for a "quick morning bite" instead of a once-in-a-while luxury.
Food was okay; Menu was really simple, but a few interesting things. The ricotta french toast looked interesting but I wanted something savory. The 88 omelette was savory with lots of basil; toast and potatoes both good. Ham and cheese omelette was just okay, despite the gruyere was supposed to make it more savory. Coffee was mediocre, not very hot. Service was okay, but not outstanding. Table was very small and plates very big; I had to juggle things around a couple of times so we had room for everything.
Give it a try and decide for yourself!
