Klein’s Bakery & Cafe

I have patronized the Klein’s Bakery branch on Diversey, just west of Sheridan in Lakeview several times and highly recommend their pastries. Their pumpkin pie is delicious and nicely priced at $20—the crust is heavy duty and perfectly baked. This pie beats any other pumpkin pie rivals in the city!

For the Xmas holidays I ordered one of their Buche de Noel traditional French Yule log (see photo below) which I picked up today. While I’m not a cake person, after having a slice of the Buche, I died and went to heaven! For $30, this cake will serve a whole family and is such a masterpiece when it comes to appearance. Treat yourself to this wonderful dessert made with chocolate cake rolled with chocolate mascarpone buttercream and topped with chocolate ganache! 😋

While some of the other reviewers are quite right about slow service, you will not find a small coffee shop in the city where there isn’t a bit of a wait. A lot of this is due to the limited staff. In many cases the barista is the same person waiting on customers which slows down the process. However, this problem could be easily remedied if the owners take some of these steps:

1. For orders placed online or phoned in, have a specially signed order pick up line that is given priority so those customers don’t have to stand in line with the other customers.

2. Assign someone to be focused primarily on making coffee and another person to handle the pre-order line. Of course when there are no customers in that line, the worker can assist in the other line.

If those steps are taken, the bakery’s customer service complaints may start to disappear. 😊

This place is quality—I can’t say that about manu places in this neighborhood. Taste of drinks, savory foods and sweets are all top-notch.

This place is absolutely amazing. As a coffee lover, it is never easy to find a place where you can have a good coffee, and I’ve definitely found it in Klein’s Bakery. Food and deserts are awesome as well. The whole environment is so nice, they are like family and they always make you feel you are welcome to stay. It is the perfect place to have a work meeting or to stop by with friends. Sometimes I like to bring my laptop and work from there. There are so many options you, but I would recommend this place one thousand times.
