The Jungle Plate

I use to go the the fish restaurant there. One day went and it was gone , I love African food so much but everything was in the city. This food is so amazing , by far one of the best in Illinois. I try to go here 3times a month or more . 11/10

I’m going to preface by saying I am not African. But I lived with Africans from different parts of the continent for 3 years. This food is delicious. I got the Jollof dinner. It was delicious. They have a soda machine of different types of organic sodas. It was nice to have instead of having standard coke products. The food is authentic.

I ordered the jerk chicken tips/fries and I was looking for a BBQ grilled taste on the chicken, but the flavor was ok and their jerk sauce is good, but I've had better. I ordered a passionfruit strawberry drink which tasted watery, not much flavor and it was gold in color which I think was the wrong drink and besides it didn't taste like passiofuit strawberry either. I also got the jerk chicken taco with mango salsa which was good, but again the meat isn't bbq grilled jerk. The mango salsa was delicious.

My wife and I stopped in for a small bite to eat, and got more than we expected!

The small plate of rice and beans with the jerk chicken and cabbage has got to be the best thing I've ate all month. The chicken was juicy, the rice was fluffy,and the cabbage was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of heat. And ginger lemonade? 🍋

So happy this place opened up, perfect addition to the neighborhood! Can't wait to come back to try the fufu...I'm def asking for a bit more spice next time

I had a delicious lunch at Jungle Plate. The venue was a clean, colorfully appointed and inviting space. The owner was a gracious host and prepared a delicious chicken and dinner for me and my friend. I had a sampling of both jerk style and “jungle” style chicken. The meal was perfectly seasoned. The sides (cabbage, candied yams, rice and peas with gravy and fresh salad) were scrumptious! The yams were perfect, not too sweet not too dry. My favorite was the roasted chicken and rice and peas, while my friend enjoyed the stewed goat. There were several delicious beverage selections as well. Although I personally didn’t have them, the tacos seemed to be a hit as well among others who were dining in. You can tell the owner and staff put their very best into the cuisine as if you were family visiting. I will be back to explore other parts of the delicious menu!
