tl:dr Il Poggiolo is a warm and inviting spot with excellent service to match its great food and tasty wines at reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

Our group of friends made plans to get together for New Year's Eve too late to get a reservation anywhere, and we knew that good places that don't take reservations were likely even busier than those who took them. On a whim we decided to stop at Il Poggiolo, thinking we'd maybe find seats at the bar.

The four of us, with a fifth expected, walked in at 6:30. Lo and behold, there was one - one! - open table. Sure, it was small and right by the door, but it was a table. We decided five people able to talk around a small table was better than five people spread out at a bar and unable to talk as a group. (Besides, we were only having apps and wine, not a full meal.) Thus, it became our table.

Small table or not, we stayed for almost two hours! Il Poggiolo is so cozy, it felt like being in your own kitchen. Unusually, despite their being full-up, it really wasn't excessively loud. We could easily hear each other, with no need to raise our voices. (I've come out of similar places literally hoarse just from trying to be heard across the table.) Oh, and since they have heavy curtains hanging around their front entrance, we weren't hit by a cold draft every time someone came in or left, despite sitting only a few feet away from it.

The service was well-nigh perfect even with their being packed. We only once had to wait more than a few minutes for an item and never had to ask twice. Our server, Tori (I believe) was just as friendly and helpful as she was attentive.

They have a nice selection of wines - I only had a red blend and a Reisling, but both were good. And while we only ordered the calamari, if the rest of their food is anything like that, you'll be in for a real treat!

The service was great! When the manager found out it was our first visit, he treated us to dessert. Our waitress and staff kept checking on us and filling our glasses.
We liked the pasta dishes, including the meatballs and sausage. Pasta is house made.
Saw another table had a huge kale salad, looked awesome!
    The atmosphere is relaxing.

Third time here and I have no complaints, but one. I am in the service industry, And I don’t see how it’s OK to have the hostess’ half naked up front. Not appropriate especially for a nice restaurant. Kind of a turn off and sad to say considering the food is fantastic and the service is spot on. Just my opinion.
