Perhaps more disappointing was the work environment that I quickly recognized as toxic. With in just a few minutes you could hear and see there is major friction between the leaders and workers. Upon inquiry I learned it was indeed once a grocery store, possibly Sharps Foods. It has been a restaurant for 23 years. It's reasonably priced. Very reasonably priced. The biscuits and gravy were magnificent. The coffee was good. The service was lightning quick. The food arrived in mere minutes. The staff were so very very friendly. Delighted I decree. This cafe was a delightful delight. Nothing but a delighted happy joyful experience. If around Salem, Illinois, check it out. You'll be glad you did.”

“4/20/19: The biscuits and gravy were as good as usual, and the staff *who were there* were very pleasant and helpful; HOWEVER, three people working during the late breakfast rush were NOT enough. The coffee was empty and it took longer than I've ever seen to get our food. :-( 2017: I love it that the "big breakfast" now has biscuits and gravy instead of pancakes! My dad always had coffee here in the mornings after he retired, so I always try to have breakfast here at least once when I'm in town.”
