This place is amazing. My best suggestion is to go on a Saturday around 1pm. The waitress who works this shift is so friendly, helpful, and she is attentive, best waitress ever and not too in your face like some, she is the perfect balance of making sure you're cared for without invading your space. The food is really great. We've had the brisket and the pig shoe and both are very good. The onion straws are delicious and their in-house sauce and "magic dust" is to die for. This is a must visit destination.
Not too bad, but I've eaten barbecue all over the country. If they've won a lot of awards, I'd have to say the kitchen staff probably aren't as skilled as the creators of these recipes. Both the ribs and the brisket were a bit tough today. The sauce is great. I just think you shouldn't have to exert a lot of force to cut your brisket, you should be able to wave your fork at it in a threatening manner and have it fall apart out of fear. The magic dust is yummy.
Wow! Appetizer, fried pickles came in a metal tin. Enough to feed 6 people! I highly recommend the turkey sandwich. It was served on buttered Texas toast. So good. I normally wouldn't eat the bread, but the combination of flavors was delightfully delicious.
Always excellent! Great food, great service, cool atmosphere! I've ate here at least 30 times over the years. Just went there today for lunch.
Sam was our waitress, and she was very friendly, professional and thorough, but not pushy. She was a great server. Food arrived fast and fresh.
The pulled pork is always fresh and delicious. For $8 you get a big sandwich and one side. Make sure you order it "southern style" with chow (vinegary coleslaw) on top. So freaking good.
The red beans and rice is an insanely delicious and unique side, but if you just like fries, their french fries are some of the best anywhere.
Keep up the great work 17th Street!
The food here is a little more expensive than I anticipated. I'm not a real big fan of BBQ. The smoked flavor was almost overpowering. We ordered the fried pickles and onion straws ($8 each) I asked if the pickles were spicy (I don't tolerate spicy things well) and was told they were not. But after eating some they were a little spicy. Even the onion straws had a kick to them. The dipping sauces that were served also were spicy. The portions were large enough for 3-4 people. The pickles were very greasy. The 17 street potato was pretty good with pulled pork and cheese and bacon melted on top. The pork steak was good, but rather expensive at $15. Kids had chicken fingers and hamburger with fries. These were $7 each but did include the fries and drink. Total bill was almost $60 for 2 adults and 2 kids.
