La Galeria Mexican Cuisine and Creamery

The food always tastes very fresh. Different than most Mexican restaurants in the Midwest. Everything isn't covered with cheese or deep fried. They offer those dishes, but it isn't the only option. I love the availability healthy options. They even have a low calorie dessert, a popsicle made with water, fruit, and artificial sweeteners.

We really loved their chips and salsa. This was more authentic Mexican than any restaurant around here. It will not be the run of the mill food you normally find in U.S. Mexican restaurants. We've heard good things and our first trip was worth it. The side dishes of beans and rice were healthier versions than I've ever seen in Mexican food. Service was great; they were busy. We will go back!

We tried this place this evening for the first time. The decor is bright. The service was attentive and extremely polite. The food was the best Mexican food in southern Illinois. Flavorful and cooked to perfection. I grew up in the Southwest and the flavors made me think of some of my favorite spots in Arizona. We will be back.

Wow! You just have to go. The salsa is awesome, smoky but not too much. The food is very fresh. The bathrooms clean. It can be a good fast lunch stop, especially if you get something simple like tacos. It is also a great place for a date, because it has atmosphere. The servers were excellent, helpful, and friendly. THE ICE CREAM IS DEVINE! This place is a must if you are in the area.

This place is worth checking out! Midwestern Mexican food leaves a lot to be desired as a Latino living in this area. Most Mexican Restaurants just default to covering things in cheese. La Galeria actually uses the flavors of Mexican cuisine, you can taste the cumin, cilantro, paprika, varied chillies, etc in the food. Yes there's a little heat to it as it should have. The food is definitely the star here but the decor should not be forgotten. Its very classy and upscale, something you'd think you'd see in a bigger city. Edison lights illuminate the tables and Mexican artifacts adorn the walls. A refreshing departure from piñatas and sombreros like most other places. I can't wait to visit again so I can try a different dish!
