Went there about a month ago. The wait was extremely long, but our waiter told us "You've waited long enough, now let me make it worth the wait"....and he did! We are returning tonight and taking company with us!! Very tasty and excellent service. People complain about the drapes on the walls, c'mon. You're there for the food, not the decor! They did an excellent job!
My friend and I went to Gaucho's last evening and had a wonderful time. We were initially seated in the bar which is not convenient to the salad bar. I asked to be seated in the main restaurant and they did so with pleasure and right away. The food was excellent and plentiful. The 35 item salad bar had all the makings for a beautiful green salad plus other great salads including an egg salad, chicken salad and several others that I didn't try. They also had smoked salmon and a large variety of fresh fruit. The truth is you could make a great meal just on the salad bar. Shelly was our waitress and she was great. The meats and sea food were beautifully seasoned and cooked to order (we both preferred medium rare to rare for our red meat). The desserts were gorgeous and tasted as good as they looked. Everyone treated us as though we were special and important customers. They even gave us a birthday discount though Jenn's birthday wasn't until Sunday, 4 days away. My only disappointment was that they apparently don't serve lamb on Wednesdays.
This place is absolutely amazing. Don't believe what any of the naysayers are saying. First, the service is excellent. I you have the great fortune of having Ashley or Lauryn (they can be found in the bar most of the time) then you will be thoroughly pleased. The gauchos are extremely courteous, professional, and they will keep the plates piled as high as you want them. If anyone tells you they had a horrible experience they clearly have not gotten out of the Denny's mentality. Unfortunately, many in Northwest Indiana have not experienced fine dining or meat that hasn't been burned to a crisp and dried out to their liking. I cannot understand why anyone with half a brain would not speak highly of this restaurant.
