The restaurant, located at the south end of downtown South Bend, has is nondescript exterior, and we almost missed it on a drizzly evening. It was worth tracking it down, however, for the wonderful Thai food. My Pad Thai with tofu was perfect. and my companion's Red Curry was spicy-good. Service was pleasant and unobtrusive. Prices are reasonable.
Very friendly staff. Did a great job with recommendations. The food was good. Atmosphere isn't there, but uneeded for the type of restaurant. Sticks to being practical and have just enough space to where it fills up at lunch.
At first glance the interior implies that the real investment here is in the food, and that was proved to be the case. The decor is simple, basic and clean. The food comes in generous, flavorful portions. We started with egg rolls with chicken instead of shrimp or cabbage. Minutes later, we received 4 freshly made, thin egg rolls with dipping sauce. They were still hot and worth every bite. We could have eaten more, but fortunately we did not, for the entrees were bigger than we expected. The pad thai had tamarind sauce which gave it a surprising yet welcome tang. The noodles, chicken, veg and crushed peanuts made it complete. The beef and broccoli came with rice as well as other veg. The char on the meat was perfect and the proportion of veg was just right. The place was packed for Friday dinner and the great food is the reason.
A lovely little family owned place and our favorite spot to eat in downtown South Bend. I'd forgotten they close at 8:30 on Saturday's, but she not only took a carryout order for us, but remembered what we usually get.
You can customize how spicy you'd like your dish on a 1-10 scale. I like heat, but I usually stay at a 6-7. We absolutely love the fish cakes, especially my very picky son. Their tom yum and coconut chicken soups are great. For years, I always got the beef basil, until I discovered their curries. Now it's always a hard choice between the red, green or the panang curry.
They're pretty popular, and perfection takes time, so there's occasionally a bit of a wait, but it's always worth it. We're usually in and out pretty quickly. Prices are reasonable, and portion size is generous.
