Authentic Mexican in Iowa? Who would have guessed! We live in Texas, where good street tacos are prized. Maria's are as good as any I've had at home or in Mexico City. The posole was flavorful, and husband said the burrito was five star. Homemade horchata was best I've had anywhere. Every time we come to Marshalltown for family, Maria's is a must stop. Don't expect a fancy restaurant. It's window service from an old house, and you eat at picnic tables on the enclosed front porch or outside. But every Texan knows the best Mexican food comes from a hole-in-the-wall joint.
One of the best place I've ever ate, I'm a truck driver and was making a pickup at JBS and found Maria's on Google. I truck all over the country and Maria's is one of the best taco joints I've ever been to. I'll be back every time I'm there.
I didn't think I would find authentic tacos in Marshalltown, boy was I wrong. This place is top notch. Had the steak tacos and the tamales (one chicken, one pork) everything was great. Go ahead and get a large horchata too, you will not regret it.
My favorite Marshalltown restaurant. The attached photo is what $9 (+tx) gets you - 4 tacos & a coke. Not much to say except that they were amazing. Absolutely delicious.
Sweet tamales (along with regular tamales) and steak tacos are delicious. Burritos are huge. Always, always, always get the green sauce. Never disappoints. Red sauce is a little bit spicy, use small amounts to taste.
