Went here with a work college after not hearing about it for 4 years. It was amazing. The burger was huge and portions were great. A lot of people come here for lunch and you wouldn't know it from the outside.
Loved my first time here. Our server was exceptional. Very intuitive and knew just when to stop and see how we were doing. I had the Rarebit Burger and now I’m hooked. For those who know what “rarebit” is, this dish has NO rabbit in it!
Extremely fun classic diner environment. The food is great standard diner Fair and they have some wonderful protein shakes as well. Be sure to tip your waiter or waitress!
Hard not to give it a 5 star rating, but sometimes the service has been not so impressive. Food is always good and pricing is fair. My family and I have been enjoying this restaurant for 14 years now and recommend. Parking can get a bit interesting at times as well.
First visit to the Ankeny Diner and right away, even before we ate, we decided that we would have to come back. The Ankeny Diner has that diner look and feel. There is nothing pretentious about. It just has a good, homey, comfortable feel to it.
The menu is huge and I would have to say the portions are huge as well. However, the prices are no more than what you might find in a similar restaurant. That said, The Ankeny Diner is a good value.
Our server was quick, attentive (numerous refills on the coffee) and very personable. And though we were there over the lunch hour, we never felt rushed.
Another upside is the full service bar for those who want something stronger than black coffee. My only wish is that more Iowa restaurants would offer more Iowa wines and craft beers.
By the way, we hear that Ankeny Diner breakfasts are REALLY good.
