Truman's KC Pizza Tavern

Edited after owner reached out: These folks care about the food and service. I appreciate the owner reaching out after we had an experience that was less than what we were used to. May have been an issue with the food vendor that day, have had great experiences in the past. Staff always friendly.
* original review: This place has been in our rotation of family weeknight eats for a few years. Always friendly staff, still the case today, however it seems the food quality has taken a sharp dive in recent months. The menu recently changed as well. We ordered a taco pizza and have been vomiting it back up as a family as we try to go to bed this evening. The pizza looked different than we remembered when they put it in our table but we thought it may be something with the new menu. The pizza was covered in so many chips you couldn’t see the substance underneath that can only be described as a gelatinous brown meat/bean/god knows what blob. Our pizza didn’t smell or taste right, after a few bites we all put it back. Even the waitress commented she could smell something odd about the pizza. I have never been so sick from restaurant food in my life. We’ve has great food here in the past. We used to love going here as a family, not likely to try again. Again, staff is super nice.

A fun CHIEFS bar to visit on game days! They will have all the NFL games going at the same time but audio for the Chiefs if they are on. Good beer selection and yummy pizza! Good company.

The pizza is very creative but not overwhelming. The crust is absolutely delicious. The server was very very busy but did an absolutely wonderful job. She was friendly and attentive even though she was so busy.

Stumbled upon this place because I didn't want to wait 2 hours at the pizza joint that I had intended on having dinner at. I'm glad that my plans didn't work out at the other place because Truman's pizza is delicious. The ingredients seemed fresh and not canned, just the right amount of sauce and very generous portions of each topping. The crust was homemade and just the right combination of crunch and chew. The bartender and waitstaff were all friendly and helpful. This was my first visit but it definitely won't be my last visit.

TL;DR: Pizza, apps, tap list and environment are all incredible. Breakfast is okay. Servers and management make you feel like a regular. Service is friendly and effective, occasionally overwhelmed, but always more than accommodating.

A KC sports-themed pub with great pizza, a few slam dunk apps and a host of other staple menu items - sandwiches, salads, etc. They serve breakfast as well, but the other areas of their menu are much stronger.

The tap list stays fresh, and has a wide enough appeal to match any palette.

Several TVs above the bar, and mounted around the rest of the intimate dining area. If you're a Chiefs fan, there's no better place to watch a game in the Des Moines metro.

Ownership/management is regularly visible and interacting with guests. Service has always been friendly and effective. A little patience or a simple reminder may serve you well at peak busy times, but staff is always willing to accommodate.
