Absolutely best sandwich shop in Grinnell and soup is amazing as well
1854 Deli is a great place to grab a bite to eat. Their sandwiches, salads and soups are always satisfying. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Definitely a place to stop when you are visiting or in Grinnell.
Excellent place to stop and grab a bite to eat! The service was great and the employees are so kind and very helpful. The soups and sandwiches are marvelous! I will definitely be stopping back in next time I’m in town to grab a bite to eat.
I have loved everything that 1854 Deli has offered. There are too many sandwiches to pick from that are my favorite. The Oracle; I love how the chicken is shredded. The Not Just Turkey is fabulous with the apple butter. And if I want something light the Sasha is wonderful and the hummus is amazing.
All of the soups are fantastic. My favorite has been the dill pickle chowder. Who knew dill pickles would taste so good. All the soups are made daily and use fresh ingredients.
The staff is wonderful! They just put a smile on your face. Every time I'm in Grinnell I always stop by (let's be honest, about every day I'm there) to enjoy some of my favorite foods!!
I had a PHENOMENAL chicken and pesto sandwich called "The Oracle." I wish I had a better picture of it too, because this was probably the best chicken and pesto sandwich I've ever tasted. My usual experience with chicken and pesto is with deli chicken strips, but I really liked how this sandwich used shredded chicken because it made the sandwich feel homemade! Did I mention it comes with a free pickle (hint: take a bite of the sandwich, then the pickle, you won't regret it)?
As for the soup, just how I like my tomato soup. Just sour enough to discern a tomato flavor from the soup, but muted enough that your taste buds aren't overpowered with acidity.
10/10 would recommend.
