“Kind of seemed like a hip place, but they don't have any sound dampening whatsoever. So if you want to work here or have a conversation here, you might want to expect a bar atmosphere instead of a coffee shop atmosphere. I can't really speak for the food (just had coffee), but it seemed pretty overpriced to me. The coffee was decent though? So I guess that's cool. It doesn't seem like a bad place, just having it be an exposed metal echo chamber setup was a poor choice.”

“This was a very happy surprise. We picked Ames as an overnight stop on a road trip because we were interested in a few of the sights on the Iowa State campus. This hotel is very conveniently located to the campus, but if you want to walk downtown it would be a bit of a hike. The place was spotlessly clean, the rooms were spacious, quiet, and comfortable, and there are a bar and restaurant on site. Often when I travel I pick a "name brand" hotel because even if they are not great, at least you know what to expect. In this case I'm glad I chose something different. This was much nicer than the usual chain places. A special shout out to the staff: All were very friendly and helpful, and when we found we had left an item behind, they found it and offered to mail it back to us free of charge. The customer service is greatly appreciated.”

“I went to the Filling Station for the first time a week ago, & wow can we talk about LIFE CHANGING! When you walk inside it is a breath of fresh air. “The girlfriend and I really enjoyed our breakfast here. The food was outstanding. We also really enjoyed the design and decor of the building. The old school diner vibe was relaxing. There is quite a large dining area, but it was packed to the point of a 20min wait to be seated. A testament to the quality of food. Our waitress was a little passive aggressive and didnt seem to know how to multitask. She seemed annoyed when we would ask for anything like drink refills, butter for our toast, syrup for our pancakes and especially when we wanted to order dessert pie. She was never rude but took her time fulfilling our requests. It was very busy that day so hopefully that was only reason she seemed agitated. I will definitely eat here again. Just hope for a different waitress.”

I have had times where there has been very little salt and other times where there has been almost too much salt. The majority of the time they do good just an occasional problem. “So many good things to say I don’t know where to begin. The look of the resultant is rather unique but clean and nice. The food was delicious and I tried some of everyone that I went with and every one was better than the last. All the meats were perfectly cooked and delicious and I can’t wait to go back and try every menu item they have. Customer service was above and beyond as well which is why this might be my new favorite restaurant in the area. Everyone was very nice and helpful throughout our visit and went above and beyond expectations. An employee came and asked us how everything was halfway through our meal and my father, who had already finished his meal, joked that he wished it was bigger because it was so good. Very soon after he brought out another of the same order for my father with no extra charge. I didn’t catch his name but it put our experience over the top and resulted in a big tip. I honestly can’t say enough good things and can’t wait to go back.”

“I have been a regular in the Ames area since my college days in the late 90’s but somehow I had never been to Aunt Maudes until very recently. It’s a shame I had never come before because this place is great. I had a wonderful steak, the service was excellent and the setting was elegant without being stuffy.
