Oldest restaurant west of the Mississippi built circa 1857. I had the hamburger special for lunch. Nice cozy restaurant with a very friendly staff.
This place is really good! Especially considering it's location. The steak was fabulous. Chicken piccata was a nice rustic take on a classic. The rice was terrible mush. Avoid. Bull fries were good. It's avoid some of the fried food on the appetizer menu. Pickles aren't bad. So, yeah, the fried chicken is actually fantastic. I'll be back. What they get right is really, really good. There just a few things that they got pretty wrong. That's been consistent on more than one occasion. The service has always been friendly and excellent. Amanda served us last time. She was outstanding!
Great rustic place, service was very good and the food pretty good as well. The chicken fried steak was large! I don't know if it was previously frozen, but it seemed to be hand battered and it was clearly a slab of sirloin. The beef flavor was there but I don't think the meat itself was seasoned. As this dish goes, this was a good example! I'll be happy to come back next time I'm in the area.
This was our first time here. Inside a great historic area, was Hays House. It was busy this lunch hour. We had to wait 20 minutes. We were seated beside a rustic fireplace. The service was friendly and quick. I had a Wabaunsy Wrangler pulled pork sandwich. Very good! I've never had this combo before! Desserts are great and also massive! Plenty to share. Afterwards we toured to house and cellar. There's big rooms available for parties.
