I enjoyed my experience at Keg and Krahen, but I feel like I am falling out of love with Thai food. It no longer tastes right to me. My partner enjoyed his curry though.
This place 10/10 has the best Thai food in all of southern Maine. It is run by a very small staff who cares deeply for the quality of their food—so remember to be patient! It will be worth it!!! All of their ingredients are clearly fresh and the flavor combinations are to die for. They are also open late which is a huge plus with most other restaurants closing at 9 in Portland.
Favorite app: money bags
Favorite salad: papaya salad
Favorite entree: spicy pad Thai!!!!!!!! (Massaman curry is a close runner up)
Favorite dessert: mango sticky rice
We stumbled upon this place after the spot down the street was closed. We're lucky we did. Delicious, unique and very pleasant. We'll be back!
We saw some photos in social media and thought we should stop in. I was super impressed! The staff were SO nice that I wanted to stay and chat all night. We had a warm sake which was yummy, and edamame and veggie gyoza to start. Both of the apps were delicious and only lightly salted which was great for my partner who has cardiovascular disease, so sodium is important. He had the spicy pad Thai which I tasted - it was really good, with well rounded, but punchy flavors. I had a few sushi rolls, mostly vegetarian and one soft shell crab. All were a great size and tasted delicious. I have to say that I look for sushi/sashimi spots with lots of vegetarian options because I really don’t love meat, Keg and Kraken had lots of veggie special rolls which was amazing!
We finished up with the ice creams and the sticky rice - the sticky rice was my favorite, and the green tea ice cream. My photography partner loved the coconut ice cream! We took a few bubble teas home for our daughter and they were well packaged for travel and tasted amazing.
We will definitely be back!
I had the pleasure of eating at Keg and Kraken on their soft opening night. Some
of the best sushi I’ve had in Maine. Just had the spicy tuna roll, and the texture and consistency of the rice was perfect, great flavor and super fresh. I also ate their HUGE portion of shumai and the Tom Yum Gai, both of which were awesome. The soup had the balance of full flavor while not being overpowering in either the sweet or spicy category. Really loved it and excited it’s opening up!
