Visiting from Texas: Gorgeous space with great selection of asian sauces and spices, cookbooks and merch. Good coffee too. Hope I can come back one day to try the Gimbap and buy a tote bag (they were already sold out)!
An absolute gem of a store. If you’re into sourdough, fermented produce and high quality spices, sauces, oils and vinegars, this is a must-see on a visit to Portland. Staff highly knowledgeable and charming. A perfect retail experience.
What a magical place!! Full of the best fermented product selection I’ve ever seen! And some really awesome cooking/fermenting/baking tools and cook books from really reputable chefs! The person who was working there was so nice and so knowledgeable too! And their matcha latte was the best I’ve ever had! Check it out!
Truly some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet in Portland.
If you're remotely interested in fermented foods -- from kimchi to sourdough or anything else in between -- you gotta visit Onggi. Located in what seems to be the smallest yet cutest store, Onggi is such an amazing addition to Portland's food scene. The people working here are incredibly passionate about the products they source in their store. I usually learn a thing or two by just browsing and talking to the staff. They carry dozens of items -- local ones and from away -- that will bring your cooking to the next level with wild flavors you probably didn't even know existed. If you're by the area, just visit them.
I mean the other reviews say it all. This shop is a wonderful explosion of Asian and fine foods with an emphasis on those daily staple kitchen items. If you don’t need more kitchen items, stop by for a cookie or coffee. It’s worth it. Not to mention, the owner is kind compassionate and very friendly. Nothing bad to say about this little market spot.
