Varano's Italian Restaurant

The food is good, comparably priced to other local restaurants. All the basic American Italian dishes. Maybe a couple of dollars more than usual because it’s in a touristy area. It’s not going to blow you away with creativity, but the portions are fair and the service is pretty good. The ambiance and interior is a little dated, but clean. I would recommend it to others.

Show up hungry because the portions are enormous. It's a little until you consider just how much food you get. My eggplant parm was dinner and then lunch the next day. It was so tasty by the way. They also cater! The food they made for my wedding was awesome.

Our waitress was very accommodating when we visited in 2016 and the food was great however I called ahead before I got married on Wells Beach and a gentleman told me that we were welcome to bring a small wedding cake. However the manager (not sure of her name) refused to let us, a party of 13, cut or eat the cake in the restaurant. When we asked for to-go plates and plastic forks to eat outside she all but threw the containers at us and said "we can't spare forks". So, we made do and ate the cake in the parking lot with our hands! That being said, as a local of the Wells area, I won't be returning and I won't be recommending this restaurant to anyone else either. Very disappointing experience on our special day.

This was an exceptionally great place!! What makes this place unique is the unique culture that most places have lost. A great example of this is as you walk in there is a sign posted to silence you phone so others can enjoy each other's company. No one is one their phone here. Kinda cool...anyway the food is excellent! The staff is willing to work with you to make suggestions if they dont have something in particular.
This unique service comes at a price though. It is one of the more expensive places to dine. As google would say $$$$.

This used to be our favorite Italian restaurant. We still like it, and the sausage, peppers and onions dish was delicious, but we remember it better; perhaps there is a new chef. I would give it 3 1/2 stars. Caesar salad was fresh and light, but I prefer it more hearty, cheesier Second visit: their red sauce is delicious as is their eggplant parm and side salad, so I've increased my review to 4 stars. Moderately priced.
