In comparison with the other AYCE hot bot & bbq places in the catonsville/Ellicott city area, this place is a solid choice. I was really hesitant after reading the reviews and previous honey pig experience but they deserve more credit for now.
I came for dinner on a Friday night. Service was great and at no point this I think that meat was coming out too slow. Though I can complain that the broth isnt intense, I'm not a fan of boiling my food in general. The Korean BBQ in itself is better than all the local AYCE options and the grills are larger as well.
I've had both Hotpot and KBBQ on two separate occasions at this location. Hotpot or BBQ only is $35. Soup options were House, Bone broth & Mala. We had the Bone broth which was good and the Mala which tasted like Tomato soup, would not recommend. Silced meats came out fast and we're delicious. The buffet items were also pretty good, lots of variety. Although lacking some key items you might find else where, like more fish balls, tofu, mini dumplings etc. The major plus to this place is it's super clean and new. I don't think I've seen a cleaner hotpot buffet. Sauces were also plentiful but missing a few more Chinese items. Still good though. I would recommend this joint, you can still make a great experience out of it. Side note the KBBQ, the staff isn't as attentive cooking which would be my only gripe.
Dining Out on Hard Mode
It's like having all prepped ingredients in a Korean kitchen; you just have to put it together. Servers will light your grill and bring you unseasoned meat, and after that, you're on your own. They do not cook/flip food or tell you when it's done. It's up to you to create your own sauce that goes on the meat, put veg together, get your rice and sides, etc. There's a lot of walking back and forth for rice, new plates, cooking utensils, sides etc. You have to be quite careful to avoid cross contamination between cooked and raw foods. If you are not comfortable handling raw meat and seafood, and know your way around food, I would not recommend this place.
Also, the chairs were too low for the table. I had to stand up most of the time to use the grill and I am 5'9".
Otherwise, this place was awesome!! The array of choices was dizzying and almost overwhelming and we didn't even do the hot pot! However the raw food bar was absolutely immaculate.
Because of how complicated the dining/cooking experience is, I would not recommend children younger than 6 or so.
Great service! Hotpot was okay, broth was bland but I added my own sauce to it and made it taste much better! Bbq was good. Veggies and rice are self service just like the sauce bar.
