Had the Honey Truffle Goat Cheese sandwich. So good!
I see a lot of mixed feelings for the Dining Car. Even in the street standing in front of the truck, I heard one person sing it's praises, and another cast annoyance. Folks seem to either love it or hate it.
I'm somewhere in the middle.
I tried their more expensive specially item, thinking it would be a good indicator at what they would put the most effort into: the lamb sandwich.
It was advertised as being slow roasted in garlic and rosemary, but I didn't taste either of those things. In fact, I didn't taste much of any seasoning at all on the lamb. However, it was tender, juicy, and flavorful, since lamb on it's own is tasty in the first place.
The herb goat cheese and fresh mint were great addition. They gave the heavier, savory lamb a creamy and lighter component. They didn't skimp on the mint.
The pomegranate vinaigrette gives it a nice tangy aftertaste, cutting though the heavier ingredients and complimenting the lighter.
The bread was a nice thick ciabatta, toasted. Despite the juicy lamb and the viniagrette, it never got soggy and it kept it's crunch.
It was a good sandwich, but $11 was on the steep side. Overall, I'd consider The Dining Car a solid middle-of-the-pack food truck in Downtown Boston. I'll definitely be back.
