Best clam chowder ever, and my hometown chowder (Ivars) is delicious. Awesome place with lots of history and very, very good service! Great use of space and the atmosphere is warm and historical.
Great hidden spot. Stopped for drinks and snacks. Fantastic gin and tonic of the day, with a refreshing light herbal flavor, a sprig of lavender garnish. Great tavern atmosphere. Had the Thai lettuce wraps, very fresh ingredients. Recommend.
This old tavern has great food, very helpful wait staff, not to mention nice looking at that. The cup of New England Clam Chowder literally comes in an overflowing mug, and is some of the best I have ever had.
I came in with a group of 15 and they had no problem taking us in and taking all of our orders. They have good drinks and there were no complaints about the food. The prices are high, but as my friend said, you don't get to be the oldest tavern by having the cheapest prices.
What a gem! Got a great recommendation to go to the bar for lunch. Good service and people. Got the Caribbean chicken club
the spiced chicken breast made the sandwich. The Caesar salad looked great but I let her enjoy it while I devoured the sweet potato fries. The cider was very refreshing on a hot day.
This was of about a half a dozen places that we visited that claimed to be the oldest tavern in America. The tavern seemed to be of the correct age, we found it to be a little run down. Perhaps this is part of its historic charm. The beer was good, although we only had one. The bathrooms while clean were small. Worthwhile place to visit if you are in the area.
