This place is great to eat at its family friendly and they take cash and check only you can come in the restaurant to order for Togo or dine in or call the phone number and order. They have meals for those that are vegan and those who are not.
I started eating at this place when they first opened I think in 2007? They're still amazing. It's the epitome of the best "hole in the wall" hidden restaurant. The quality of the food has always been amazing. JJ, I just wish you were still open on the weekends. That's my only complaint: we don't have enough access to the wonderfulness of JJ's.
Think I'm over exaggerating? NO! You cannot over exaggerate the deliciousness of the "JJ".
The general's chicken has always been one of my favorites. If you order the Hurricane Chicken (or chicken hurricane?) make sure to request that they add bean sprouts. It turns a wonderful dish into a master piece.
Want the best crab ragoons? Be sure to order JJs.
Want General's Chicken, but not so spicy? Order the sesame chicken. Same, but not spicy and (surprise, surprise) comes with sesame seeds!
The curry is amazing. Most of the food is worth dying for (I say "most" because some of the menu I would rate as "delicious" instead of "worth dying for", but others have said "worth dying for", so, ya know, you decide). Definitely upgrade to the fried rice rather than the place white rice.
Also, if you order the crab ragoon, check to make sure there is plum sauce. It's sometimes forgotten, but only adds to the power of the deliciousness of their crab ragoons! 100% would recommend! And, as repeat, repeat, repeat customer (from, basically, the stores inception), I would like to thank JJ's for the awesome flavor they have added to Houghton! You and Sky Sushi are the best combo of Chinese and Japanese food we could ask for in our neck of the woods!
Food was hot and great! Pictured is the general chicken with steamed rice. Perfect amount of spice and sweetness. They do only accept cash or check right now so just be aware of that. Really friendly lady at the cash register :)
JJ’s is one of the two good Chinese takeout places in Houghton (along with Ming’s). The sesame chicken and general chicken are both very good, and the egg drop soup is exactly the “takeout style” that I like.
The reasons I only give it four stars are because the menu was only available online on Facebook which *requires* you to make an account to see it. A restaurant shouldn’t purposefully make it difficult to see their menu online, especially when Google maps has a menu feature built in. They also only accept cash which makes it kind of difficult since my bank doesn't have an ATM up here (and it's kinda gross in a pandemic).
