Amazing. Simply amazing. To start, they have renovated this place into being one of the hipper places in Mount Pleasant. Neat lighting, solid tables, and interesting decor. Service was fantastic. Everyone was fully masked and we were greeted/helped by at least 5 staff members. The food was exceptional. Hot food was hot and crispy. Very tasty sauces. Humongous portions. Our sushi rolls were as big as a child's arm and our $6 tofu app was probably half a brick or more. Normally we are pleasantly full after 3 rolls but these were exceptionally thick and full of fish. Probs will only need 2 when we return. Had the Beautiful, Hawaii, and Spicy Tuna. Hawaii roll was our favorite. Originally was concerned about value as their prices are a little higher on rolls but after seeing what you get, they are probably under priced. Their lunch specials are a super bargain at 3 rolls + soup for $16. Expecting this place to explode in popularity, go soon before it becomes a crowd.

As an important reference, we also tried Kuji last week and have been to Midori several times. Kuji's sushi was fantastic as well but quite a bit smaller than Sumo's. Kujis hot food was uninspired, greasy, and small in comparison to Sumo's. The staff and furniture were also much better at Sumo. Kuji just feels a bit cheap. Kuji also had a lot of employees who didn't respect masking. Everyone at Sumo was masked the entire time. Kuji, ya'll should visit and take notes. As for Midoi, Sumo is the better value but Midori has a better bar. Midori is a bit more refined but you have a lot more options and get a lot more at Sumo.

Looking forward to having a real sushi place in town and excited to try their Hibachi!

Sumo has amazing miso soup, house green salad with ginger dressing, and sushi rolls. We ordered multiple rolls, including the shrimp tempura, crunchy crab, Philadelphia, Godzilla, American Dream, and Fire Phoenix. Everything was delicious and plated beautifully. The staff were very friendly and prompt. My husband and I highly recommend Sumo!

If I could give a 100 stars I would. I came here on their first day. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The staff are all friendly. You start with a soup and a salad at the hibachi. Our cook, Tony, was incredible! He was funny, interactive, and very good at what he does. The food is simply amazing and would recommend to anyone. I ended up getting the shogun dinner and everything was cooked to perfection. For a drink I had their hot house saki, and I have to say I am impressed. Everything here is overwhelmingly good! I definitely will be coming here again, and telling people about my amazing experience.
