Wow wow wow, just wow. I am so glad i decided to make the trip even through I was staying at a hotel in downtown. The food was just amaxing.. i had the 'catfish tofu' sandwich and man was it delicious! Excellent customer service too!
We ordered the smothered tempeh, a cup of the okra stew, and some sesame broccoli. Everything was outstanding! The tempeh was tender and flavorful. The gravy and the mashed potatoes were pure comfort. The broccoli was steamed to perfection and the okra stew had a satisfying blend of herbs. We would definitely go back all the time, if we lived in Detroit. Well done, Detroit Vegan Soul East!
Food was tasty but I gave 4 stars because it was kinda over done and crunchy. I'll give them another try though... We had the soul platter with bbq tofu added in. My tofu was really chewy but everything else was great. We also had the Catfish Dinner and the hush puppies was crunchy as well as the catfish. Still tasty though.
I heard about Detroit Vegan Soul for quite some time so it was nice to finally get a chance to try it. I ordered the Soul Platter which consists of vegan Mac-n-cheese, smoked collards, maple glazed yams, black-eyed peas over rice, and cornbread muffin. I was worried about the mac-n-cheese but it was good. Actually, everything I had was delicious and comforting. I also enjoyed Green Life smoothie. I would definitely eat. Highly recommended.
I loved the atmosphere. The food options were great. Their coffee machine wasn't working :( It took a really long time and the food was not very warm when it finally came. But it tasted really good! Nice people working :)
