I had no expectations going into Ima. Honestly, aside from the occasional sushi restaurant, I’d never been to a Japanese restaurant. But I love udon noodles so that’s how we ended up here.

Omg. This might rank as one of the best meals I have ever had. The udon was PERFECTION. Comfort food to the max. (I’m not ashamed to admit I had to ask for a fork.) I had the mushroom broth with short rib. I stuffed myself. I could not get enough. I want more.

We started the meal with the shrimp potstickers. They were hot and full of flavor.

The Gorilla Monsoon mocktail was huge. Fruity and tropical, it was everything a mocktail should be.

This meal was perfection from start to finish.

I love this place. it's sold as an elevation of the old location on Michigan and the one in midtown. Similar fare but different. it's a nice , well lit space and plenty of seating. I was greeted promptly and brought room temp water ( which most times i prefer but i felt i may have been a little cooler) but that's a nit pick. I had menus and a server before i could count to ten. I'm one of those who like the middle level of attention, meaning don't come to the table every 4 minutes but don't disappear either just be close enough and pay attention to see that i need you. All the food i had was great. My choices are always limited to my dietary restrictions due to belief. i had the Karaage chicken, Mushroom dumplings and spicy tori and the highs and lows crafted cocktail. All were generously portioned. They all did kinda of come out together and i wish there were a few minutes between so i could enjoy and give my palette a chance to rest. The dumplings were crispy and filled with just the right amount of filling, spicy tori was flavorful and SPICY 🔥🔥! i loved it. The Karaage chicken seemed less spicy than I've had before but fried well and not greasy. The drink was well made and balanced....i had two. Staff is nice. The busboy cleared the table quickly. i was finished but he never asked as he removed dishes. The owner ( or one of them) came around and made sure the ship was running smoothly. He took a few minutes to speak with me. Overall a great experience and I'm going back again and again. 9.85/10.

Went there twice, once to eat and once to drink, and BOTH were wonderful experiences. Food was great, really fresh with a lot of flavors and textures.
Drinks, gotta give it to the bartender in the pictures, she really took her time and she was doing everything with a smile in her face and a great attitude

Ima was great. We sat at the bar and had outstanding service. The skewered meats and the pho were delicious. The best dish we had was the Chilled Cream Cake. It was one of the best desserts we've had in Detroit.
