Out of nowhere location. Fried fish was good, but the fried chicken smothered with bbq sauce was delicious. Tried the mashed potatoes- perfectly seasoned- and gravy, and enjoyed the yams- nicely buttered and sweetened. You're going for good tasting food, not your diet. Everything was delicious, and it was a great discovery while going along the Riverfront.

My only complaint would be that more staff needed to help get customers checked out more quickly. Some of the food looked old, but they let us know that more was on the way and we got to try it fresh. Didn't mind waiting for it. You go here for the experience and not fast food. The two of us shared one meal, but if you're hungry there's plenty to make you full.

this place is cafeteria style. i had the chicken wings with collards and yams. the yams and the collard greens were great. the chicken was well seasoned but it had obviously been sitting there for a while as it was lukewarm at best.

As stated in another review, I was told about this restaurant by the rental car shuttle bus driver at DTW.

    She was not wrong.

My wife and stopped by here on a cool, cloudy evening after visiting the Ford Museum. We were both very hungry. After having our GPS take us to this location we parked on the street and went inside. Our first impression involved the building itself, which was very beautiful and was built in the Art Deco manner. We found out later that the building itself was over 100 years old. Very impressive.

At this restaurant, the food is served up cafeteria style. You walk the line and a helpful employee tells you what is available on the line and describes dishes if you are not familiar with them. After listening to the menu choices I had BBQ chicken, collard greens and pinto beans. My wife had the rib tips, cabbage and corn. To be honest, I have never had that much food in a restaurant. And, to say that this was soul food would be a gross understatement. This was the absolute best soul food I've ever had. And, as I told Steve the owner, who happened to be there, those collard greens were second only to those of my Mother (rest her soul). That is the highest compliment I can give to any cook. The food was that good. The chicken was falling off the bone and was an entire half chicken. The beans were done just right and were also delicious. My wife ate just about everything on here plate too. We were both happy, to say the least. And despite all this food, we also had desert. I had the sweet potato pie and my wife had peach cobbler. Needless to say, we had to take the deserts back to our hotel for enjoyment at a later time. We were too stuffed to eat them.

If you ever happen to be in Detroit you are doing yourself a disservice if you do not eat here.

The building is beautiful, the decor attractive, the staff is awesome and the food is the best soul food I have ever had.

I would dine here again in a New York minute.

Thanks to Steve and his entire staff.

Your restaurant made our visit to Detroit extra special.

Wow!! We had gone to a conference at Dr. Gertrude Stacks Church and we googled Steve' to eat, trusting only in the reviews. We were not disappointed. Great food and more than enough to eat. I'll go back again and again if they are in business.
