Erta Ale Ethiopian

Wonderful spot. Quiet, chill atmosphere and attentive service. Cool lower town St Paul location. The food is obviously unique and was delicious. I’d recommend Erta Ale to anybody who wants to try something other than traditional American fare.

I got the Shekla tibs, and they were seriously amazing! the flavors in everything were complex and delicious, with a bit of a kick to it! portions were large and generous, with two different sauces on opposing corners so you could dip the beef and injera into either one. I don’t know what exactly each sauce was, but the orange one was full and a bit spicy, and the green sauce was cool and refreshing. The injera made it easy to eat with your hands without making a mess.

I brought my parents to Erta Ale for lunch and could not have been more happy! The food, service, and atmosphere were all so authentic and welcoming. It made us feel like we were back home in Ethiopia having a meal with family! Thank you so much. We will definitely be back :)

Our host, Eden, truly elevated our dining experience. Ordering was as smooth as silk, thanks to his attentive and friendly service. It's rare to find such a wonderful mix of excellent food and warm hospitality.

To cap off our delightful meal, we indulged in their Ethiopian coffee - a true essence of the country's rich tradition right there in our cup. As for the ambiance, it was inviting and comfortable, enhanced by the engaging table trivia that added a fun twist to the dining experience.
