This place is very unique because of how old fashioned it is. Love the old decor, the waiter was very nice and gentlemanly, and Donna was really sweet. It only gets 4 stars because I liked it, but I had to add salt to everything I ate. The peach cobbler was delicious, though!
It's really nostalgic for me because my grandparents also kept fake flowers everywhere. My only complaint is that my first cup of coffee was the bottom of the pot, and tasted pretty bad. But then they brought out the fresh stuff and it was fine.
Also, story: I took my parents there for lunch on their 30th wedding anniversary. The restaurant coincidentally played the same music (from Somewhere in Time) that my parents had played at their wedding!
Amazing service! Donna is so nice. Everyone is so nice. When we arrived at our table the hostess brought blueberry cupcakes. They were the best cupcakes in the world. The menu is limited, but the food they serve is perfection.
Felt like going literally to my grandma’s home. Had the honor to meet Mrs Mother in Law House owner. I admire the way that she receives all customers with so much love and care. It’s truly a blessing. I adore their menu. I came to town for a medical treatment and having the heavenly meal made my soul so happy. Will be back soon. Oh my God and their pie in the glass is serious yummy
This is one of those places I don't think has changed in 40+ years, and I hope it never does.
I ate here alone on a weekday lunch. The restaurant is in a beautiful old house with an elegant but not overly ostentatious atmosphere. The roughly 20 table dining room was mostly full, with a definitely older crowd. In a good way, it reminded me of going out to lunch with my grandparents. I got the feeling that many of the people here know each other, as they exchanged friendly greetings between tables. There's also an outdoor patio area for a better season.
I had a bacon cheeseburger (with sauteed mushrooms by request) with fries and a side salad. The house dressing (Russian) was light and refreshing, not overly creamy like I had expected. I ordered the burger medium rare, but it came closer to medium well -- but the meat was tender and very juicy and flavorful, well-spiced with pepper, and I had no complaint. (I only even mention it because some people can be quite particular about that.) The bun was soft and fresh, and the fries were perfectly crispy. There's no shortage of places to get $10 burgers these days, but theirs is one of, if not the best I've tried.
Service was a touch on the slow side for lunch, but not outrageously so, and this is the kind of place for a leisurely meal anyway. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating.
I will definitely be back, and will put it high up the list places to take my parents when they visit. I'll look forward to trying their sandwiches and soup.
