The drinks and the service were fantastic as well as the space. The drinks were all unique and tasty. The food was also amazing but the small plates were more like tiny plates, comically small. Lots of flavor and well presented but certainly not enough for even an appetizer. Great space for a drink and perhaps a snack but certainly do not expect to leave full. Hope to see some bigger options in the future! Also the restaurant survival fee is very odd especially when gratuity is included.

Tongue in Cheek is the perfect addition to the downtown heart of North Conway! With everything being tapas style, you truly get to try as many flavors as you want, while drinking some of the best cocktails in town. The team is so talented and service is impeccable. Also there is a 3% restaurant survival fee that is exactly what the service industry should be all about.

    Beware hidden fees

Im always excited to see new restaurants open in the valley, so of course my mother and I went to try it out. First the decor is really nice definitely more for a younger crowd, however it is very cramped in the space, 16 seats total for the restaurant.

We sat at the bar, started off strong with the splitville cocktail, literally tastes like banana ice cream (would definitely just go back just to have another), unfortunately that was really the only high note in the dinner.

The restaurant specializes in small plates between my mom and I we ordered 5 plates. We got the lamb skewer, while it smelt great the meat was chewy as well as it wasn’t that practical as the skewer was burning hot and my mom and I awkwardly got the meat off using a combo of our utensils.

The grain of salt (watermelon steak) was okay, not that flavorful but just okay. The Cubano was the real disappointment, while the buns were warm the meat was ice cold and the different temps didn’t really make it palatable. The cauliflower was pretty good but not a lot of it. The Vladimir poutine, this was def the fav between my mom and I and was quite flavorful, I also got a midori ra tai which wasn’t the greatest, mix of weird flavors.

The service wasn’t the greatest, had trouble getting to order from the server for both ordering and getting the check. However the greatest upset of the the meal was the “hidden fees”. There was an automatic 20% service charge on the bill (again only two people at the bar), which we did not see anything about an automatic service charge on either the menu or website, so do be aware there is that fee.

The other surprise was a fee I’ve never seen before a “restaurant survival fee 3.00%” I understand that they are a new business and restaurant and I fully welcome new restaurants however they really need to advertise that there are hidden fees with the meal. Probably will not go back for a meal but possibly for a drink and a drink only.
