Have to go to New Orleans to compare, but enjoyed the food; the neighborhood, not so much.
Madear's is delicious, warm, and important to Manchester in so many ways. They are human in there scheduling, but when they are open it is definitely worth stopping by.
Absolutely love everything about this place! I have been to New Orleans once and immediately fell in love. I have missed the place and happened to stumble upon Madear’s one morning and nearly cried after my first visit. The atmosphere was so inviting, the food was delicious and reminded me of eating and cooking with my Nona (so many stories were shared about family), and the drinks are top notch and different than your typical beer and wine. I highly recommend their gumbo, meatballs, crawfish Mac and cheese, gator (though I do wish this was a larger portion) bites, and heck so many other dishes! If you enjoy brunch then try their fried chicken and red velvet waffles, you will not be disappointed.
Being a Cajun and New Orleans themed restaurant I was hoping for a stronger presence of spice and kick. The food was mediocre at best. The Mac and cheese was dry and overcooked and the only flavor I got from it was the overabundance of over cooked melted chesse. I was also very disappointed that the "greens" in the Sunday plate was cabbage. I thought it would of at least been a mix of both cabbage and collard greens.
Aside from the mediocre food the owner was very personable and friendly. The dining space is quaint but initiate. I love the teal distressed ceiling. I hope they find a sweet spot for their flavoring because I don't see it lasting if they don't.
Excellent food all around. Their Mac and cheese is legitimately innovative - garlic, bechamel... It's so good. And their gumbo was phenomenal. My wife loved their cocktails, and *loved* the bourbon bread pudding. I had the gumbo, which was not only delicious, but a fun experience - breaking open the crab claws by hand, no cracker, was super fun. And the staff is so friendly! We actually got a hug when we came in. Highly, highly recommended. We will be back!
