Jax Shack is in Victorian Ocean Grove in a historic former hotel with tin interior walls, ceilings, and a beautiful view of a side street off the beaten path. It features inside and outside tables to take in the remarkable views just steps away from the Great Auditorium. The place is a totally romantic experience, with many tables featuring loving couples enjoying a gourmet breakfast or lunch. The food is exceptional; the "Blue Plate Special" includes two eggs any style, two pieces of meat: bacon or sausage with home fries, a warm biscuit with butter and jam, and add a mini waffle to give you a breakfast you will never forget. For lunch, I love the Bao Buns, a delicious, warm, fluffy treat of stuffing wrapped inside a sweet, white dough filled with Shrimp with slaw, pineapple, jerk sauce, or Crab Cake with slaw, cilantro lime sauce. They also feature a BBQ Sundae with baked beans, pulled pork, chicken or beef, and coleslaw topped with a splash of buffalo sauce. My kids love their gourmet hot dogs and Jax's Hoagies. There is a special treat for everyone! As a professor, I give Jax Shack an “A+” for an awesome place to eat in historic Ocean Grove! Dr. Jim Brown
One of my new favorite places for breakfast and lunch in Ocean Grove. The staff and ownership are super friendly, and every meal they make is just the same. Just off of main street, you can get a sandwich or a full dinner, which is great in the off-season months.
With so many places that come and go, support them so they're here to stay (i have zero affiliation with Jax)
We were trying to find a spot for breakfast on our last day in OG and were very happy to stumble upon this place! They accommodated our big group of 8 without a wait, the food was very prompt, and it was delicious! I would have posted a picture but I scarfed it down too quickly.
And the waffles on a stick are ridiculous!
We checked Out Jack Shack and loved it! The frozen hot chocolate and waffle on a stick was a favorite of our 7 year old daughter! The staff was friendly and the service was great. They recently opened and we hope they become a must visit at Ocean Grove
What a lovely establishment! I appreciated the mix of breakfast food available. It was just the usual eggs and sausage but also some more unique options like waffles on a stick and a bunch of types of hot dogs. The iced coffee is also a big size - good value. Certainly looking forward to supporting this new business!
Not terrible. Not amazing.
The service was good. We were treated well and the food came out in a timely manner.
From what I gathered, this establishment is new and opened up for the summer. In the kitchen are what appears to be young workers, just teenagers - which isn't bad necessarily.
We ordered the Hungry Man and the waffle stick (bacon inside a churro).
The Hungry Man is a dish that revolves around potatoes, topped with many ingredients like cheese, lettuce, beef, guacamole. It was an underwhelming dish, mainly because I thought the large amount of lettuce was overbearing. I thought there could be more beef too, but at least the beef was tasty. The whole dish was a little bland.
The waffle stick wasn't bad. It was a decent bite of savory and sweet, but didn't quite hit the spot.
Overall, I think this spot has potential. The prices are reasonable and the logo is awesome (a dog with sunglasses - yeah!). I think the dishes need to be elevated in certain ways to make each bite more satisfying.
