Lobster bisque...mmmmm....nuf said

Great chowder, but super-high price!

We love their chowder! This place is small, and hidden a bit, but worth the effort to find. The chowder is lovely and creamy, and has just enough clam to make it great. There's usually not much of a wait, and there are two small seating areas. They feature chowder in bowls or bread bowls, as well as a few related items. Take out is also available. We come here usually out of season, and the vibe is pleasant and warm.

Got the lobster bisque and the clam chowder. The chowder(what they are known for) was absolutely to die for, while the bisque was really good. The interior is tiny, and that is an understatement, but there is plenty of seating outside. It didn't take more than two minutes to get the soups, even with an incredibly rude woman, who kept "sampling" the hell out of the poor girl that was behind the counter. Other than the standard NYC trash (like the Queen of samples) you are forced to deal in LBI, this place is second to none.

Country Kettle Chowda may not be, "best of the best" (there never is), but they certainly come close. The winning formula is great soups and consistency. Tried all their three regular soups, Manhattan, New England and Rhode Island (combo of white/red) . They sometimes serve other soups which have always been good. You can also purchase a frozen pint to take home.
