I guess the store need a sign outside the townhouse building that more customer will see and come in. The unagi is perfectly cooked and delicious. The price is little bite expensive, but worth it.
The eel here is super fresh - apparently it is flown in every other day from Japan - and cooked perfectly. It is more expensive than most other unagi don in the city ($65) but it is well worth it. The restaurant can be difficult to spot at night - it is in a second floor walk-up - and the interior has no windows. The service was prompt and friendly. I'll definitely be back, perhaps for lunch when the set is a little cheaper.
Great spot for a date. I don't drink so I didn't mind them not having liquor, however it appears like that should be resolved soon from the owner responses. As far as the food goes, I ordered the full set and did not regret it. I highly recommend this as it gives you a bit of everything. Authentic and delicious, what more could you ask for?
A few days ago I visited this new restaurant with my girlfriend. I have stayed in New York for more than 10 years and challenged eels at numerous Japanese restaurants, but none of them met the authentic eel taste that I could eat in Japan. But the eel offered at Hachibei was authentic. Compared with other restaurants, the eel of this restaurant is rather expensive but I was satisfied with the price thanks to that taste. According to restaurant staff, they are importing eels from Japan three times a week. They also showed us a fresh eel before cooking. I was impressed that they import eels from Japan and offer them at a price similar to that of Japanese restaurants. I would definitely return to this restaurant again.
