Cozy place and great food
The sushi is fresh and the pieces are not overburdened with rice. That's my first sign of an acceptable sushi establishment. It's small on inside but I prefer cozy. It's not dimly lit or claustrophobic just smallish. The wait staff when I visited must have been one of the owner's or chef's sons. He was pretty damn good at what he did and whoever trained him did a good job. It's rare you find competent young people in the restaurant industry in NY City so this was an overall good experience.
Went to Akimoto Sushi with 4 friends and the 5 of us could barely fit into the restuarant. It is scarce on space, almost claustrophobic, so don't plan on staying too long. The food was pretty good. We got the lunch Salmon and Chicken Teriyaki bento boxes, crab salad, spicy crunchy shrimp rolls, tuna sushi, miso soup, salad, and green tea. ???? The establishment seems to be family owned as the waiters were two young boys, both between the ages of 11-15. We paid about $80 to feed 5 people which is a bargain in my book. All in all, it's a no frill Sushi spot. The food is good, the portions are decent and the prices are extremely affordable. Do not expect stellar service but do expect to leave quite satiated with change to spare.
Great miso soup and best shrimp tempura roll I’ve had to date. Also great bento box - the chicken teriyaki; the salmon is not great. All very well priced and everything has good portions. Highly recommend AND THIS IS WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING!
Pretty decent. Sushi was good service was a little slow by they were super pleasant
