The American Retro Bar & Grill

Good local hangout near the taping of the Trevor Noah show. We met a friend after the show and it was convenient with decent, hearty pub food and a congenial atmosphere. Service was good.

American retro is one of my favorite places to visit when I'm wandering around Manhattan. When I have friends and family visiting me from other states it's in my top 10 places to show. Not only are they very affordable the have some very impressive food. The retro burger is in itself a phenom. The only downside is that they are always short staffed. Most of the time the bar tender is tending bar and serving the floor. If you have a seat at the bar this is usually no problem but many times sitting at the tables I've found myself thirsty, even for a water. Besides that I have no complaints. The food definitely makes up for it.

Love this place. Went there with my sister.. great food, great music, could not ask for more.

Went there with kids and, truth be told, I thought we would stand out as a family (it’s a pub after all). Well: not at all. The waitress was super nice and accommodating, the food was exactly as you would expect when you say “comfort food”, and the music (yep) was awesome (80s greatest hits including The Clash, The Cure and the likes).
Definitely a good experience!

The bartenders are very friendly and welcoming. The wings are delicious! And their different assortment of tater tots are awesome!! Pizza tots and all! Food served late too is a bonus. 2am.
