The Royal Underground

Was excited to check out this new and trendy looking spot in Astoria, but left somewhat unimpressed. Service and staff were excellent and on top of everything, but maybe a bit too much. Waitress came by at least 10 times while we were eating to see if everything was good. A bit much if you ask me. Maybe cut that down to 2-3. I get it’s a new place and you want to make sure things are going smoothly, but it got annoying after a bit. Drinks were tasty, looking forward to their whiskey menu. Host gave us an extra round on the house. As for the food, lobster Mac n cheese was pretty tasty. Lots of huge chunks of lobster in it, which I think could be better cut up and incorporated into the dish. I grabbed a forkful and got an entire claw, makes it tough to share with two people with 3-4 huge lobster chunks which we had to cut up. Got their 10oz short rib burger and didn’t like it at all. The roll it’s on is pretty dry and too big for the burger. Too much bread. Burger was medium rare and more on the rare side. Had little taste to it, bacon was undercooked. Was just a very unexciting burger with so many burger options around the area. Could use some kind of aioli on it for some flavor, or maybe the short rib needs to be seasoned better, and a better choice of bacon. Some thicker cut would be good. It needs some change though. I’ll definitely be back to try some other dishes and see if I have better luck with those options. Hope to have a better experience next time.

By far one of the best restaurant and bar you’ll find in Astoria! Everything was perfection from the moment we walked in the door from the service to the food to the drinks nothing let us down. We had the pleasure of enjoying crawfish tempura as an appetizer, short rib burger and salmon for entrees. Would recommend all of them! To top it off they have over 100 different whiskeys to choose from… Will definitely be back soon

Great place. Great staff. Owner came by and gifted a free dessert and wanted to know how we liked the place.

Food was spectacular

Had a great night there on their opening night last night! They currently have over 150 whiskies and will have over 200 when the list is complete. Food was FANTASTIC. We got the shrimp risotto which was the star- seriously well made, and the scallion pancake with pork cheek which was also delicious. Cocktail list looks interesting too. Friendly welcoming vibe, nice ambience and decor, and the owner came out to ask for feedback which was cool. All in all, we will definitely be back to try the rest of the unique menu!

Great drink, good staff and an interesting menu (still under development). Might be one of the more upscale places on 30th ave. Worth a visit.
