Everything was delicious! My margarita was by far one of the best, ambiance was lovely. The only reason I’m rating the experience a four is because the guacamole had no flavor whatsoever... and guac is like, 101.
First time trying this place since it opened.
On the positive, their cocktail menu is creative and the food is pretty darned good. We are getting closer to great Mexican food in Ithaca. Viva and Agava aren't really traditional Mexican, and Old Mexico is just... food service grade. Bickering Twins is good! The empanadas are quite tasty.
Unfortunately I had similar experiences to someone --two months ago-- with miscommunication from the staff regarding happy hour. If this was happening two months ago and is still happening now, they have a serious problem with training their staff. When people come in during happy hour, the staff should clearly tell them where they need to sit to get the happy hours deals. It's not that difficult. I shouldn't be seated and handed menus before I find out I'm not in the arbitrary happy hour section.
You should definitely eat here if you're in Ithaca! 80% of the menu is FANTASTIC!, and the other 20% is still good. Definitely get the plantains(!), but the guacamole is just adequate. The taco platter is a must, and it's filling too! Can't go wrong with any of the taco choices, and they source from local vendors as much as they can. Their drink menu is unique, featuring regional liquors from Mexico that you have not likely come across. The service is generally great, but a few times I've been disappointed by it. Overall, every night I come here I am so happy that I did!
The food and drinks are great. The restaurant space, and atmosphere are great. The service needs WORK. I've been to BT a dozen times, always hoping that they'll have gotten it together, and every time there are issues. Last night I never got my entree. The staff were apologetic, but I was given the excuse that it was really busy. It was not really busy. The issue always seems to to stem from disorganization, and slow service. I've watched the service staff and they often seem frustrated by communication issues. I keep coming back for the food, but now that I've had an experience where the food didn't even come, it's time for a review. I really hope they get things sorted.
The food is a little pricey but absolutely delicious. I know I will definitely be returning sometime in the future. It's important to know there are two halves of the restaurant. One is the bar side, the other is the restaurant side. The happy hour deals are for the bar side. My friends and I first went to the bar side to take advantage of the happy hour deals, then moved to the restaurant side for dinner. The service was also very friendly.
