Authentic Texas Style Smokehouse with a little Carolina flair. Top notch 10/10
Hands down best Texas style BBQ I've eaten. Jon G's is the hole in the wall you'll tell all your friends about. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. The mexican corn is my favorite.
Hands down the best BBQ in North Carolina! Great food, great people! I promise it’s worth stopping by!!
After seeing so many people rave about this place on Instagram, I really wanted to try it. Unfortunately, I missed my chance to try it on the food truck in Charlotte.
Right now during Covid-19, they are doing curbside pickup every other Saturday in Peachland, NC. If you don't know where that is, you aren't alone. It's off of US-74 about 45-60 minutes away from Charlotte.
Am I crazy for driving an hour to get some BBQ? Maybe. It was worth it though (and what else do I have to do right now?).
We ordered brisket, pulled pork, a jalepeño cheddar sausage, mac and cheese, and apple crunch. The meat was by the half pound (except the sausage link) and the sides were by the pint. The side portion was huge.
Each meat was served with either pickles or pickled onions which I loved. They also gave us a bun and a piece of white bread (the white bread was an interesting choice haha).
The brisket was to die for. They let you pick fatty or lean--obviously we got fatty. I love that they let you pick because this made it so much more delicious than chancing it and getting lean. The jalepeño cheddar sausage link was amazing. I'm not a huge sausage person but this was different. So good. I would skip the pulled pork next time and get more of the sausage and brisket. It was ok, but it was kind of dry.
I loved the mac and cheese. I ate all of it even though it was a ton because it was so good. The apple crunch was also very good. As far as sauce, they gave us two of their tomato based sauces and a vinegar one. Both were good, but the vinegar one was my preference.
It's quite a drive to get there, but I'm glad we went. I hope the truck still comes back to Charlotte in the future so that I don't have to drive so far to get it.
Best Texas style barbecue in North Carolina.
Try the brisket, pulled pork sandwich, and all of the sides. Recommend the jalapeno cheese grits and Mac n cheese. I'll try some of the others on my next trip!
Get there early because the line gets long and they will run out of brisket. I've driven an hour for this barbecue because it's that good!
Looking forward to when they open a brick and mortar this year but I hope they still operate the food truck so I can avoid the long drives.
