Self described as an unexpected restaurant, and featuring something of a dive facade, this eatery is a delight and a surprise, featuring a complex and for some, slightly challenging menu, of chef driven cuisine with an attention to detail. Simply put - every plate we ordered was excellent and every cocktail a delight. Running up a tab is very easy to do, but in a world full of commonplace food experiences wrapped up in a fancy building, this place, while humble in abode, made a vivid memory of flavor.
We stopped in for an apertif and an appetizer. We got there at opening at 5 and were seated immediately. Service was good, and a bit relaxed. The gnocchi with ramp was excellent. My husband liked the swordfish toast. He likened it to a fancy tuna salad.
We thought the vibe here was great, however the food didn't match the vibe. We felt that the food was almost too fancy for the restaurant. We enjoyed the food and drinks overall, but we're not fans of the mussels (too chalky, and a bit bland), and the kohlrabi (no taste), but loved the liver pate and the duck leg. Great service, however. Loved our waitress.
Had yet another amazing dinner at The Admiral. I’ve been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. We ordered the fried soft shell crab and duck liver mousse which were both gorgeous and delicious. Service was impeccable as always. We were even gifted a bowl of mussels that had been ordered in error so we lucked out on an unexpected additional treat.
