Rucker Johns Restaurant

I ordered a "Zombie" from the bar and they nailed it, perfect drink. For dinner I chose the " Texas Burger" and it was delicious. There was no bun, but with the potato discs, it worked very well spooning portions of the chili / sour cream burger onto the baked potato chips. Best meal I had on my week in Emerald Isle.

We eat at Rucker John's quite often. They have the absolute BEST fried crab cakes that I've ever eaten!! On this visit, my mother and stepfather were in town and my son and his girlfriend were going to go to eat with us, along with their 3 month old french bulldog puppy. We called ahead of time to find out if the patio would be open, because the puppy isn't allowed to be inside the restaurant. He does have a stroller that he sits in the entire time and he's still very tiny, so he isn't a nuisance. We were told that the patio closes at 4, but that they would accommodate us on the patio as long as it didn't start to rain(it had rained the entire morning and afternoon in that day) We get there and my son went in to check us all in and let them know we were there to eat on the patio. The young girl at the hostess counter either wasn't aware that we had already called or she didn't care either way, she gave my son a look, rolled her eyes, and told him the patio was closed. Thankfully the manager walked up about that time and was aware that we had called and told us to go ahead and sit wherever we'd like on the patio! The waitress, the bus boy, another manager, everyone that we encountered on the patio during our dinner were great! They made sure we had everything we needed and asked for. They all even had to comment about how cute the puppy was and some even petted him!
I'm not quite sure why they close their patio at 4pm, one would think that would be the time they'd open it up? But I must say that even though I liked Rucker John's prior, they've definitely impressed me with the way they accommodated us all because of a little 6 1/2 lb puppy, my grandpuppy!! Pricey but tasty... from the tuna to the rib eye sandwich it should be eaten rare. Always leave stuffed. Service is pretty good to be as busy as it was. Try and you'll probably like it.

We always visit while when in town on family vacation. Always good food and service. Wide selection of food to satisfy everyone. The croissants are to die for (comes with side salad or on their own). Often a wait at peak times, but they do have a call-ahead service at peak times.

My family will definitely return to Rucker Johns the next time we are on Emerald Isle. The service and food were both excellent. The menu has a well rounded selection from burgers and sandwiches to chicken and seafood dishes. Make sure to order a basket of croissants. They have the most wonderful honey butter drizzled on them. The meals are a little pricey but no more then is expected at a nice restaurant in a tourist area.
