    Beautiful views of Chowan River. Lovely charming restaurant and perfect romantic spot. Friendly staff and excellent service. Highly recommend a visit!

    We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. The setting is historic and beautiful. The food...wow! My husband and I ordered the fried calamari, and it was so fresh, crispy and seasoned to perfection. Next, we shared the Captain's Platter. It was more than enough for the 2 of us. This dish was so flavorful and delicious. We were both very satisfied. I must add, the staff are extremely friendly. We live about an hour away, but will definitely visit The 51 House again!!!

    Had a party of 4, no reservations, and it was a Saturday night. They were busy, and looked very rushed. I ordered prime rib rare. It took 2 hours for the food to find ally come out, and the prime rib was well done, roast beef well done.

    In those 2 hours the waitress never came and told me they were out of rare slices. So I ordered the fillet medium rare, no fillet cuts left. So I got a salad... the food was good, what I did eat, it was presented lovely, but very frustrating the chef didn't let the staff know what cuts were available before waiting 2 HOURS for a meal! Absolutely ridiculous. Gave it 3 stars because what I did eat was great and the waitress and manager tried to make it better. Will eat there again, just having a snack before I go.
