Uptown's Chicken and Waffles

Great place, staff was polite and inviting. Loved the atmosphere, and the food was great. Me and my wife will continue to go here in the future.

Chicken was good. Sweet potatoes delish. Potatoes in potato salad were hard. Little pricey.

I felt that the food here was good. The service was ok as well. Just an average resturant. I do like the idea of the sweet and salt and the mac n cheese leaves you wanting more. There was just something about it though that was odd. The manager was somewhat rude to us and there was no call nor reason for that. But it's all good. I would likely go back just because I am from the south and love south flare food.

Let me tell you....this is a must! Food amazing, atmosphere...bomb and the staff/service so welcoming and friendly. Ate here 3 days in a row upon my stay in NC.

After hearing amazing things about Uptown’s Chicken and Waffles, I decided to give them a try. I broke this review down into specific categories.

Food: I had “The Skinny” which was tender and full of flavor. The Mac and Cheese was WONDERFUL! I highly recommend it. The collards were not my favorite at all. They were bitter and somewhat greasy tasting. My mother had “Moore Fried Chicken”. It was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It was seasoned perfectly! She had the same sides as I did and agreed with me that the Mac and cheese was the best!

Atmosphere: Warm, inviting, and cozy! I believe they are taking social distancing seriously and I appreciate the extra effort.

Service: This was the one area that I felt needs improvement. Our waitress was also the bartender so she had to try to balance several tables plus any bar guests. She did great trying to help, but it’s obviously too much for any one person. There were 3 other staff members working at the front; hostess, cashier for to go, and no clue the other young lady’s position. I felt they could have helped with tables in those hectic moments. It took our waitress 25 minutes to get our payment because several customers came to the bar. All the while the 3 up front were dancing, on the phone, talking, etc. The man that I believe was a manager was seated near the pool table on a laptop with headphones on. He didn’t seem attentive and I think the other 3 staff members could have been used more appropriately if he would have been focused on the guests that were seated.

Overall, the food is worth a trip! I think the crew position plan should be revised to accommodate guests and help the staff not be so overworked.
