We entered the bar and no I greeted us or even acknowledged out presence. There were 3 bar attendants and one hostess who only spoke when spoken to. Finally when I asked if they were even open did we get a drink and have a cocktail. I guess I was just surprised for such a fancy place.
Did not nail the bar. Old fashioned was good. Other drinks were ok, at best. Beer selection was ok. Bar tender was overly involved with whatever he was doing. Forgot our oyster order and wouldn't come back to close out our tab to let us go to our table. Wanted to close and tip properly but he never came back. Explained to our server and she understood as he had issues before. Management rectified properly after our explanation
An amazing restaurant in every word imaginable. The service was excellent. Our waitress could not have been nicer. In fact all the staff we talked to couldn't have been nicer. The food was incredible. I got the burger from the bar and it was fantastic. Everything we tasted is more than worth coming back again. The only negative I can think of was the sinks in the women's bathroom were more of a light drizzle than anything else.
(Updated Review, 11/29/18)
I've had two, super positive and polished experiences recently. Once was during evening dinner service... my boyfriend and I dropped by the bar and I ordered a glass of wine, their arugula and fennel salad, and mussels. The mussels were the best I've had in my life... plump and buttery... but the broth was divine. I could have bathed in it and nearly did. Presentation was great, bar service was warm, conversational and professional.
The second experience was today for lunch. This time, French onion soup and the Caesar salad with shrimp. The soup tastes thoughtful and aged (in the best way).. like someone gave a damn and agonized over the details - cheese proportion was right, onion texture and amounts were dead on. Service was prompt and kind, and of course, the building is drop dead gorgeous.
Sorry to ramble, I fell in love with this restaurant since I first visited Winston two and a half years ago and am so happy to see the team triumph!
