The Colonial Inn

We stayed here as a Christmas gift to ourselves. We have eaten here several times. The food is delicious. The onion rings are the best I have ever had.Salads and steaks are delicious. Sunday brunch is unbelievably good. The rooms in the annex are modern and well appointed. This is my favorite place in Hillsborough.

We live locally, and decided to treat ourselves to a night at the Colonial Inn while we had some work done at our house. I can’t begin to describe what a warm, welcoming, and wonderful experience we’ve had here. Without a doubt, the nicest staff I e ever encountered in a hotel. Our room was a gorgeous king in the old part of the hotel, and every detail was lovely. The local art for sale (supporting local artists), reading material by local authors, and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever encountered, and a sound machine which was a nice touch when some other guests were a little noisy outside our room. The food was delicious - and my favorite little detail was the very fine piece of artwork by the owner’s child. How lucky is Hillsborough to have such a world class gem of a hotel. I’ve splurged on nice hotels in the past and felt like it probably wasn’t quite worth it - not here! This place is worth every penny and more. Kudos to the outstanding owners and staff and thanks for all you do!

I stayed at the Colonial Inn for a night with my husband and mother-in-law. It was my husband’s birthday and I was hoping to give him an exciting yet peaceful experience. It was amazing.
Not only did my husband love every moment since we stepped into the historic inn, but my mother-in-law was also in awe! She couldn’t stop talking about how thoughtful and kind the staff were every minute that we were there.
Honestly, though, she was 100% right. As soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by the most sincere and thoughtful staff. They do all they can to make you comfortable and happy. We were immediately checked in and assisted in carrying our luggage to our rooms.
When we visited the bar for dinner and drinks, we were met with even more amazing staff who were quick to serve us AND share laughs with us.
The food was superb, the drinks were delicious and the atmosphere was cozy and lively.
It’s hard to find a place that suits your every need, but all of the sweet souls at The Colonial Inn do all they can to make it perfect just for you.
