My husband loves this place because it is great pig and has lots of authentic character. As in the NC tradition, they are closed on Sundays. You seat yourself and it is counter service. The chopped comes undressed, so you can put the sauce of your choice on. They do have a Western NC style sauce in addition to an Eastern one, so they can please any NC palate. The sides are pretty standard. The fries are good, but the mac and cheese is mediocre. But no one is coming for the sides! The pig is boss, and we go back whenever we can.
First, the positive. The service was quick and courteous. The signs up on the wall are hilarious.
Now, the not so positive. The food was bland. The pulled pork had almost no seasoning or flavoring apart from the bbq sauce on the side. The mac n cheese was just a step up from Kraft easy mac. The hush puppies seem like the ones you can get in the frozen food aisle to cook at home. The onion rings were decent. This is my honest review.
I really appreciated the hand washing station. I wish all bbq places had this. The ribs were perfect and they had a good set of sauces to try out from mild to spicy. I chose the mac and cheese and potato salad sides. Both were pretty standard. I don't think you can go wrong no matter what you choose here.
Best I've had so far in this area. Ribs and pulled pork were no joke. Hush puppies were maybe the best I've ever had. And don't get me started on the banana pudding.
