It is laid back. You can watch the airplanes take off and land if you like that kid thing. There is a Museum with old airplanes in it nextdoor to the restaurant.

Food was just okay. Nobody really loved anything we each ordered. Service was also okay. Nothing was outstanding. I would take the toddler back on a non-rainy day in hopes of seeing a plane take off or land while we eat.

A place No One should pass by. Go to the Museum because you get a tour through a work in progress restoration of the Flying Fortress (B17)... A hero aircraft due to pilots, crew, & missions. Loads of information INCLUDING the women flyers!!!

The Airport Cafe has been a destination for pilots throughout the Midwest as well as locals since the 1940s. It's a genuine fly-in restaurant, a wonderful piece of Americana! My dad used to take me here when I was a kid. This place is one of those increasingly rare non-franchise, down-home, family-run restaurants, and it's much improved compared to years past: The food (mostly comfort food) is actually pretty decent now and very moderately priced. And -- check this out -- they serve locally-raised bison! Tastes just like beef but is supposedly healthier...The kitchen and dining areas have been renovated. You can now eat outside when the weather is nice. If you order a milk shake, they make it to order and bring you the can on the side. Pie is excellent.
Warning: The one thing that hasn't been renovated (maybe since the 1940s?) but really needs it: the restrooms. Ugh. The place loses one star for that.
What many people don't know is that 150 feet north of the restaurant is an aviation museum where you can see a real B-17 being restored, plus a number of other aircraft.

Such a family friendly place. Relax and watch plans take off and land. Great prices.
