Hickory & Thistle

Reserved a room for our work Christmas Party. The room and tables were beautiful (one picture posted). The owners and our waitress were so attentive! The appetizers and food was delicious. The cheesecake? OMGosh...no words (We had Little Debbie Christmas Tree, Chocolate Peppermint and Original with Cherries), all homemade and large pieces. We chose to order off a selected menu but there was also a buffet option.

After seeing some articles over the past months that a new restaurant was opening at the Lancaster Golf Club, my wife and I were eager to try it out and kept looking for word of its opening. Being very local, we were surprised that this word came when asked to sign a petition in support of Sunday liquor sales. The very next evening we decided to give it a try.

First, I looked it up on the web to find its hours and menu and was surprised to find almost no information. Next, we drove to the club and found no signage along the road, parking lot or even the clubhouse as to its existence. After several laps around the lot, we parked in the front and wandered into the building. Still no signage, but a small placard showing a special for the evening. We peeked into the room and asked if this was the Hickory & Thistle, which was confirmed, and we were seated.

We were expecting a slightly upscale decor and while the room has potential the rest was lacking. The music was a mix of 60s musicals and I don't know what else. I'm sure some may like it, but we did not. Two large TVs were on. One had golf, the other not tuned to anything. It would be nice to have another viewing option.

Our server was pleasant but under trained. After our appetizer arrived, we had to ask for plates. My wife asked for more water which was promptly fulfilled, but by my glass remained empty. After our drinks were finished, we were not asked if we wanted another are just a few examples.

The menu was limited but was VERY good and worth the visit. However, the appetizer came in a cheap plastic tray and condiments were individual packaged ala fast food. Not what we were expecting from what we would be a step up from takeout food.

The food was good, and we will be going back in the hopes that our experience was the result of their recent opening.

Wow. This is the short ribs on a side salad. Melt in your mouth goodness right here. It's open to the public. The course is too. Stop out for lunch and grab a bite.

First time trying this place out, and the food is out of this world. The crispy chicken sandwich is served hot and juicy, with incredible flavor. The BBQ ribs sandwich is tender and the sauce is heavenly. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

My family and I stopped in for lunch. The food was great and the service was good. They currently can't serve alcohol on Sundays but Judy (one of the owners) said that they are working to remedy that. They have only been open a couple of weeks, so be patient as they continue to work out some of the kinks. We are definitely looking forward to spending more time out there this Summer.
