El Vaquero Mexican Restaurant

El Vaquero is a long-time staple in Columbus. Or a pack of staples because there's a few of 'm now. El Vaquero serves very typical texmex food of good quality. No nonsense, just the good stuff. Great drinks too. I used to come here a lot when I lived in Columbus years ago, and they still live up to their reputation. Waiters were a little pushy though. Almost a Great Eating Experience!!! Kids Eat Free on Tuesdays! Always Fast & Always Fresh!!! Love the Carnitas!!! Love when you can eat the bowl (Taco Salad).

There was a time when this place had cult status. And I'm sure a lot of people still feel this way. The bottom line is, El Vaquero has been doing this for a long time now. And they do a pretty decent job of it. The patio and bar play a big role, and make El Vaquero a great happy hour spot.

Personally, I always feel a little rushed here. They have the format down to a science, and I suspect there's a lot of premade and canned items that make the plates. Decent eats, but not much personality or charm.

The bottom line is, this style has a lot of stiff competition. El Condado, for example goes next level. And there is seemingly "more authentic" spots popping up in every strip mall.

Dude. I passed the place up over and over because the outside looks... Like.. not so great. But alas! the food is by far the better than any Mexican I have had in the region in a log while. Yes. Region. Prices are fair. Go here for good food, not a wooing date, unless she is into great Mexican and isn't superficial.

Went about 7pm on a Thursday. They were not too busy and we were immediately seated. Just seconds later, salsa and chips were served and drink orders placed. You could easily carry on a conversation without feeling you had to talk loudly. Food was very good with generous servings.

The Olentangy location catered our annual company meeting for 300 people at an offsite location 30 minutes away from their restaurant. They were very attentive to my needs, requests and last minute changes. I would recommend them for any special event. Food was delicious! Thank you for all of your help in making our event a success!
