Hank's Texas BBQ - Clintonville

Very hit or miss, and out of a lot of food/drinks for Wednesday at 7. Ribs were good—smoky and peppery, and mostly nice tender meat vs sinewy fat. Brisket was good but not particularly memorable, once piece notably better than other. Chicken was the same. Sausage was forgettable and pulled pork was bland. Fries would’ve been great if a little crispier; tomatoes and chewy bacon in collards were not enjoyable to me; beans were good but need to be thicker and slightly less sweet; slaw was underwhelming and needed salt+vinegar. Sauces were thin, and none of the flavors were appealing besides S Carolina mustard style. E Carolina vinegar style was not available. Draft beer was a bit flat and not as cold as ideal.

I was lead into Hanks by my nose tonight and it did not steer me wrong. I was popping into a nearby business when I smelled what I can only describe as Meat Heaven. So I popped in to grab dinner for my hubs and I. The fella working the bar was so great in walking me through the menu. He even helped me pick out which sauces to pair up. We split the 3 meat taster platter. We had the brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. All tender, juicy and flavorful. We got the corn spoon bread and the broccoli salad and both were excellent. The corn spoon bread was exceptionally delicious. We also got the hot honey chicken app that was also a delight. I live about ten minutes away and everything was hot and travelled well. I will definitely be back. I also loved that their travel containers were all biodegradable and he made sure ask me if I needed cutlery instead of throwing and ton in automatically. I really appreciated the thought there.

Stumbled on Hank's because the air smelled amazing as we drove by. I started sniffing at the breeze like a dog. 🤣 We tried out a pound of brisket with 3 of their sauces. AMAZING!!! The garlic aioli is addictive. Such a great find! We will definitely be back!

YUM! I had the two meats and my boyfriend got the mushroom burger. I liked it, the fires were good, we also got the Mac and cheese. They have five different kinds of barbeque sauces. And I think all of them were great in their own way. The coffee sauce was more subtle than I thought it would be, it was actually really good! I suggest this place for sure!

We tried almost all of the BBQ and everything was delicious. The candied bacon is life changing! I love that there are some great starters that you won't find on the average BBQ menu. Brad and Jess have a really special thing going!
